The village of Valsequillo has aproximately 6,000 inhabitants and is situated 600m above sea level, just 30km from Las Palmas city, 20 km from the Airport and approximately 15km from La Garita Beach. It is a picturesque village at the centre of the island of Gran Canaria and surrounded by a region steeped in history. Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel (church), the former Cuartel de Caballería (Cavalry Headquarters), the district of Tenteniguada at the foot of Roque del Saucillo and the caves of pre-Hispanic origins and just a few examples of some of the fascinating nearby places of interest. The first three months of the year are when the almond trees in bloom and popular fiestas in this region are the Almendrero en Flor (in February) or the Fiesta del Caballo (horse fair). From the Mirador del Helechal you can enjoy a fabulous view over steep cliffs and plains planted with strawberries and flowers. This area is also well known for its gastronomy, including traditional cheese specialities, wines, strawberries, almonds and other agricultural products, all of which is best bought at the famous Sunday markets.
